Usability test for a bank website
By: Zihan Zhang, Huijie Lin and Cindy Hoang
Notes

This project was assigned by the school. The project is a usability test for the bank's website. I can't disclose the detail data we got from the study commissioned by the target bank, because I have signed a guarantee, so I will only explain how our team organized the project and designed the test content. And briefly explain some of the usability common problems we found in this project.

Project Plan

In this project, my team members and I completed the usability test through cooperation. We invited 5 participants to take the test. The test content is whether the user experience of a certain bank website leads the user to be satisfied. Our test was to judge the usability of the target bank's website by comparing the other two banks’ websites with this target bank. We designed 3 scenarios, each with 3 tasks. We will use a shuffling method to ensure that there is no bias during this process. During this shuffling process, each user will be assigned a list of scenarios with different banking institutions.

Scenarios and Tasks

Scenarios #1: You are now a new college student. Your parents asked you to plan for your finances independently, so now you want to go to the bank website to find what you want.

Scenarios #2:
After a few weeks, you become a user of the bank. You want to get some services from the bank's website.

Scenarios#3: After four years, you graduate. For future consideration, you want to know some new products of the bank, so you go to the bank website.

Target Audience

- 18-24 years old
- Targeted towards college/university students or young working adults
- Have some experience using websites and or banking/ financial applications

Why Young Adult?
This is an important age group to consider. Students and young workers are more likely to utilize websites and banking apps as they are fluent with technology. They may be new to banking services and require an accessible, convenient way to access their banking. In appealing to this audience, they may choose to stay loyal to the bank and service.

Method and Environment

Test Method
We will be using recording audio/video of our participants while we assign them scenarios and tasks to navigate through on the three bank websites respectively.

Environment
A quiet, private and separate room in Sheridan Trafalgar’s Learning Commons to conduct the test.

Problems Find

- Consistency
- Flexibility
- Font size
- Navigation classify

Conclusion

After the conclusion of the research test, we will summarize the problems in the classroom feedback to the bank.
